Neo-Nephilim Theory – Getting Inside the Minds of Sun E Boi and thePOET

From time to time we feel the need to serve a more traditional radio station role and broadcast some new music. There’s some artists coming out with new albums (some have come out since this episode aired) that we are really excited for and we thought we’d share that excitement with you!

Today we play:

John Legend and the Roots – “Wake Up” (feat. Melanie Fiona and Common), Maroon 5 – “Give a Little More“, Cee-lo Green – “Forget You” (link is not radio version), The Foreign Exchange – “Maybe She’ll Dream of Me“, Kanye West – “Devil in a New Dress” and Lupe Fiasco – “Go to Sleep

Be sure to also check out fellow music blogger, artist and good friend M.E.R.C.U.R.Y.’s interviews with The Foreign Exchange!

Neo-Nephilim Theory – Getting Inside the Minds of Sun E Boi and thePOET

In the synopsis for last week’s show I noted that we were paying homage to those musicians who came before us by highlighting the Blues, an art from that directly precurses Hip Hop in the arc of Black music in the United States, and this week we continue in that trajectory and place our sights on Reggae music.

Often called the “big brother” of Hip Hop, Reggae has had lots of stylistic as well as technical influence on Hip Hop from the braggadocio of DJs on the mic (known as MCs in the US) to the big speakers brought out to community gatherings,  an idea often credited to Jamaican-born DJ Kool Herc.

On our show today we bring you music from Barrington Levy, Wayne Marshall, Blue Mountain, Sizzla, Junior Kelly and of course Bob Marley.

Neo-Nephilim Theory – Getting Inside the Minds of Sun E Boi and thePOET

Blues is a musical style born in the United States with a rich history of African influence. This is of course important to us as Hip Hop and fusion artists as we acknowledge those who came before us and helped pave the way for us to be able to do what we do now.

Among the greats that we honor in today’s episode are Labi Siffre, Ray Charles, Mos Def (feat. legendary guitarist Shuggie Otis), Muddy Waters and Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and B.B. King.

Download: Say What I Wanna Say feat. Sun E Boi – theshow:ANNIE

For your enjoymeny:
This was suppose to be the first track for our new edition to the blog, but now it’s out second. Regardless, this song will take you back. Quincy you are a genius! This is also off the album theshow:ANNIE by thePOET. A track that serves a dual purpose, it plays a role in setting up the story in Annie and also is a great track to move your feet. Personally, We love it because Sun E Boi spaz’d on his verses.
